The Royal Agricultural Society

The Royal Agricultural Society has a 19 member Council. The Full Council is responsible for the organisation of the annual Darwin Show through its committees. The Board of Management has responsibility for overall management of the Showgrounds & Exhibition Centre.

History and Aims

In 1951 a very successful Exhibition was presented by the Maranga and District Progress Association – this became the first Darwin Show. Later that year THE NORTH AUSTRALIAN SHOW SOCIETY INC was formed and in 1952 staged the first Darwin Show held on its present site.

Our Objectives

• To promote, encourage and assist the development of Primary Industry, commercial, cultural activities, mining and industrial resources of the Northern Territory.
• To promote, encourage and assist the development of the Society’s Showgrounds as an exhibition and trade promotion centre.
• To promote, encourage and assist the development of liaison and communication with Government, private industry and the community as a whole.
• To promote, encourage and assist the development of Education and cultural exchange intrastate, interstate and internationally.
• Encourage, promote and sanction the formation of affiliated societies and to affiliate with other bodies with the same or kindred objects.
